New Moon in Taurus Creative Ritual—Seeding Your Purpose

New Moon in Taurus Conjunct Uranus Creative Ritual—Seeding Your Purpose

The moon is new at 8:36 pm MST today, April 22.

It’s no surprise and nothing new that these are strange and intense times, and the current starsky just reflects and mirrors this.

For folks who are skeptical of astrology, I like to think of it this way: the flowers blooming in the spring don’t make the spring happen, but they’re an indication of the dawning season. Astrology is another way of noticing and making sense of patterns and seasonal narratives that play out on a slightly larger scale.

And there is a LOT being indicated by the stars right now, and 2020 in general. But let’s focus on just the bite-sized chunk of this new moon—and find ways to best harness (or perhaps just weather) the energy.

Taurus is a sign of earthly pleasure, and the work that goes along with it. Put another way, Taurus is the sign of the pleasure in the work. The new moon is conjunct (next to, amplifying and melding both energies) Uranus—planet of abrupt and often shocking change—and square (challenged by) Saturn—planet of restriction, slow and steady growth, hard work, and also traditions and structures (and infrastructures).

Revolution and change, confronting the old structures and traditions—and also being slowed and stabilized by them—not all tradition is bad. We don’t want to throw out babies with the bathwater. And Saturn steadies our hand.

We are all watching this playing out on the collective world stage, but also take some time tonight and tomorrow to think about ways this is shaking up your life on a personal level (whether by external shocks and starts or more internal ones—or both).

New moons are a time for planting seeds—in both your physical and psychical space. And since Taurus loves gardens and farming, this is an especially potent time for it. And it’s also an important time to review our resources and see what is most critical and important for you to plant in this time and in this life—we only have so much soil, so much space in the container of our garden, so much time in the season.

The astrology right now, and the season shift, is asking you to focus on what seeds are most important to you—what seeds are truly connected to your purpose and your power? Which seeds just keep needling at your mind, just won’t leave you alone? What is the thing you most want to offer in reciprocity for this gift you’ve been given, of life? What are the steps you can start taking now to move toward that thing?

Honor the moon and yourself in the next few days by giving some time and meditative space to these questions. Journal on them. Write down your musings. Write down your dreams and goals. Choose which seeds you plan to plant. Think about which seeds are cluttering your time, which ones are ready to be released, thrown to the wind, given to someone else to nurture and plant.

This is a time to really hone in, to really focus on what’s most important to you, on what remains when everything else falls away.

  1. Choose one to three seeds today.

  2. Write them in a phrase or word on a piece of paper.

  3. Plant them, the piece of paper, literally if you can, or just imaginatively if you prefer in some soil.

  4. As you plant them, offer them your commitment, your work, whatever that may be or become, on this journey.

  5. After planting, write down three things you can do this week to honor that commitment. Put these in your calendar. Keep your commitment. Nurture your seeds.
